"Isolation is the enemy of improvement."
- Tony Wagner
I used to have this thing I would call “Rob Island.” It’s a phrase I would use when I was feeling drained from people I would kind of isolate myself. Eventually, I would realize, “Holy shit, I haven’t put any plans on my calendar for a few weekends. Oops.” I think this can also be true for investors in general. I work with a lot of high performing and not so high performing clients. Fortunately, I have the confidence of a lot of people and they are willing to be open and honest about the situations they are dealing with. Upon talking to them, they all generally have the same problems, but maybe there is some shame, guilt, etc that is keeping them from opening up to their friends and peers, trusted allies, etc. I tell them “You think you’re the only investor to have this problem ever?”
Go find a confidant that is also on a similar journey to you; go find a mentor to confide in. Whatever your fear is, take it on. Read about it, sit in it, feel it, talk to a friend, talk to chatgpt about it. While it will be uncomfortable, knowledge will allow you to comprehend the situation and take action.
"Education is the key to unlock the golden door of freedom."
- George Washington Carver
Song To Digest With
Bag in the Wind- Stornoway
Head down hurrying, I'm always hurrying
(Head down hurrying, I'm always hurrying)
Weighed down worrying, I'm always hurrying (Worrying)
(Weighed down worrying, I'm always—)
But now I am a bag in the wind
I go weaving the buses and the bicycles
Now I am a bag in the wind
I go dancing, into the river I fly
